ARK JOURNAL VOLUME IX– SPRING SUMMER

Ark Journal Volume IX contemplates the influence of history on art, design, and architecture, embracing the evolving interpretations that emerge over time and the significance of context.

They delve into the delicate balance between tradition and innovation in architecture, exploring how historical influences inform future visions. Discover the transformative power of adaptive reuse in revitalizing aged structures, and witness architectural interventions that honor cultural heritage.

Experience the translation of Southern Californian architecture into a contemporary Berlin home, and venture to a Baltic Sea island retreat designed to immerse in untamed nature.

In an exclusive interview, South African-born architect and curator Sumayya Vally reflects on the role of identity, belonging, and cultural hybridity in shaping unconventional architectural narratives. Explore the intertwined realms of creativity and community at Hvitträsk, the early Finnish home of Eliel and Loja Saarinen.

Discover Case Studies featuring furniture as objets d’art, crafted from rare noble woods, and discover the harmonious integration of art and life in Basel, as generations of the von Bartha family share their living and working spaces.

Uncover the exploration of architectural origins through photography by Ettore Sottsass in Design Metaphors, and join curator Ana Elena Mallet as she unravels the design histories of Latin America, where craft and industry forge hybrid identities. Finally, immerse yourself in our Portfolio, delving into the unique Latin American perspective on modernity in architecture, design, and art, shaped by visions of utopia.
