Portal - Woven Sculpture
Portal, 2025
A study in balance and form, Portal explores the interplay between weight and lightness, stillness and movement. Handwoven from linen, mohair, and cotton, the textile is suspended between two granite stones with dark-stained wood and wire. At its centre, a vertical black field evokes a threshold—an invitation to pause and reflect. Installation: Wire loop behind the top stone allows for easy wall mounting on a nail or hook.
Sculptural and elemental, Portal is a one-of-a-kind work by artist Emma Shepherd, created for the Past Forwardexhibition during 3daysofdesign 2025.

Care
The wood can move towards the centre of the piece, which makes the weave a bit saggy. For installation, please lie piece flat on a table, and push the wood pieces away from each other. The weave is quite moveable too, may need the tape to be pushed back into place a touch.
