The art of making chasen (traditional Japanese matcha whisks) is a rare, centuries-old craft passed down through generations from father to son. Maiasa's chasen master, a 20th-generation craftsman, uses slimmer bamboo lengths to create whisks with gentler curvature, ensuring smooth frothing and elegant matcha preparation.
Each chasen is meticulously handcrafted from a single piece of bamboo, using a small knife, reflecting traditional techniques. Available in natural bamboo and dark bamboo, each whisk is unique in size and shape, featuring a distinctive cloud-like pattern and tied with Maiasa's signature green thread.
To ensure the longevity of your chasen, it is essential to handle it with care. To prepare your whisk for your matcha preparation, soak in warm water for a few minutes to enhance its flexibility and avoid breaking of the prongs. After each use, rinse and clean with water to remove any residual matcha. Store your whisk upside down on a chasen holder to keep it in its optimal shape.
