Steltman Chair designed by Gerrit Rietveld, 1963
Gerrit Rietveld, a pioneering designer, created his last chair at the age of 75 for jeweller Steltman's shop. Named after the jeweller who commissioned him to furnish the shop in 1963, the chair became a symbol of unity with two mirrored chairs in front of a jewellery showcase. The asymmetrical design, made entirely of lines and planes, offers a surprising image from every angle and has become a true design classic. The original chairs were upholstered in white artificial leather, but the wooden version, based on Rietveld's 1963 drawing, has gained more popularity. It is available in a solid oak version, either matt lacquered or stained in whitewash or black.
