Saffo by Angelo Mangiorotti, 1967
The Saffo Lamp, crafted in 1966 by the renowned Italian architect, sculptor, and designer Angelo Mangiarotti, has since become a highly sought-after vintage piece. Its extraordinary design bears witness to Mangiarotti's sculptural background and reflects his distinctive approach to melding shapes and materials.
Saffo is meticulously crafted from blown glass, diffusing a gentle light that accentuates the glass's various material attributes. The lower section, composed of white glass, artfully conceals the light source. As the mushroom-shaped structure takes form, the white glass seamlessly transitions into transparency, allowing the light to shine through. The Saffo Lamp possesses sculptural qualities that make it a captivating design object, whether illuminated or not.
